Iran, Iraq and Russia: the top three buyers of Turkish real estate
The Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) has published statistics on real estate sales in April 2021.
According to the institute, 92,863 properties were sold in Turkey, which is twice more (an increase by 124%) than a year earlier, when the real estate market's turnover practically stopped due to the pandemic (42,700 properties sold), and housing sales to foreigners in April 2021 in Turkey increased by 416% (4 times increase) compared to April last year - up to 4077 properties. This surge in statistics is associated with the closure of borders last year during this period, when foreigners did not have the opportunity to enter Turkey. İstanbul is the leader in terms of the number of real estate objects sold to foreigners (2009 properties), followed by Antalya (859), Ankara (228), Mersin (197) and Bursa (131).
During this period, citizens of Iran purchased 557 real estate objects in Turkey, Iraq - 546, Russia - 402, Afghanistan - 229, Kazakhstan - 188.
